Compensation Benefits

<< back to Claims Information

The most common types of disabilities eligible for compensation payments are:

Temporary Total Disability (TTD)

If a job-related injury results in time lost from work, disability benefits may be due.  In order to receive income benefits, the time loss must be authorized by a treating physician.

Benefit levels are based on a percentage of the worker's average weekly wage, subject to maximum and minimum values determined by the State Average Weekly Wage.  The State Average Weekly Wage is determined each year by the state Department of Labor.

Benefits are paid during the period of recovery when a treating physician determines an injured worker is temporarily totally unable to return to work.  Disability benefits begin on the sixth day following disability from work unless the injured worker is hospitalized overnight or time loss exceeds 14 days.  Under these conditions, benefits are payable from the date of disability.  Benefits are paid biweekly.

Temporary Partial Disability (TPD)

Partial benefits are paid during the period of recovery when a treating physician determines an injured worker is able to resume work on a part-time basis, or in a different capacity at a reduced wage.
See TPD calculation examples

Permanent Partial Impairment (PPI )

A Permanent Partial Impairment Award is paid when an injured worker suffers the loss of a body part, or the loss of function of a body part. The injured worker may have returned to work and can continue to work while the award is being paid. Determination of the percentage of impairment is based on a medical assessment by a physician.  Benefits are paid monthly.

Permanent Partial Disability (PPD )

If a worker suffers a Permanent Partial Impairment resulting in a decrease in wage-earning capacity, the worker may be entitled to a Permanent Partial Disability. The percentage of disability is determined by the Industrial Commission based on the facts of the case.

Death benefits

In the event of a work-related fatality, benefits are paid to a widow, widower, dependent children, or other dependents as defined in Idaho Code 72-410.
