If a claimant feels it is necessary, he or she has the right to hire an attorney. Generally, the claimant will be responsible for the cost of their attorney based on state law and the rules adopted by the Industrial Commission.

Once a claimant retains an attorney, legal protocol requires that all communications, including benefit payments, must be through the claimant's attorney.  The State Insurance Fund cannot ethically discuss the claim directly with the claimant without authorization from his or her attorney.
