Report of Claims

<<back to Safety Programs & Risk Management Information

The first page you will see after logging into the secure area of this web site will be the Current Policy Period Detail page. This page will provide a great deal of information about your policy as well as provide links to the Report of Claims and the Loss Experience Analysis Report.

Report of Claims Screen

This screen shows claims registered to your policy by policy year. To change the policy year select the policy period from the drop down menu and use the “Display Claims” button to retrieve the list of claims for that period. You can view the compensation payments made to individual claimants by clicking on “View” in the Comp Paid column. You can export claim information to an Excel (or similar) spreadsheet to sort and/or print the report as you desire

Loss Experience Analysis Report

This screen displays the premium and loss information for the current policy year and up to five past policy periods. You can use the Loss Experience Analysis Report to follow your performance from year to year, analyze the impact losses have on your experience modification, and determine your net cost from year to year. You can review the claims for a specific policy year by selecting “View” in the Claims Count column

Review the report to be aware

  • Do these people work for you?
  • Did you know they had been injured and the nature of the injury?
  • Did it take more than two weeks for the claim to be registered?  If so, why?  Did the employee forget to report the injury to the supervisor; did the supervisor forget to complete the claim form; did the employee wait to visit the doctor?
  • Does the injury description sound reasonable given the employee's job?
  • Does the same employee have more than one claim?
  • Is the "timing" or nature of an injury any reason for concern? (layoffs, start of shift, end of shift, Monday morning, Friday afternoon, hunting season, pre-existing injuries, etc.?)
  • Note whether a claim has been closed or is open/active.  Has it been closed once and now open again? Is the number or frequency of the same type of injuries surprising?

Review the report for possible action

  • If the claimant is not your employee, notify the State Insurance Fund.
  • Have you expressed concern for the employee, and asked how they are doing now?
  • If the employee is not under your direct supervision, has the supervisor expressed concern?
  • Has a thorough investigation of the accident been made to determine how to prevent a recurrence, and has that corrective action been taken or at least referred to someone responsible for the corrective action?  (Remember, corrective action isn't limited to "repairing" equipment.  It also includes training or re-training, establishing or changing a procedure, relocating equipment, etc.)
  • Do you know if the employee is off work?  If so, can you make a light duty or modified job available temporarily?  Call the claims examiner at the State Insurance Fund to discuss any light duty work you have available.
  • If there are questions about the validity of the claim, or how it will be handled by the State Insurance Fund, discuss the matter with the State Insurance Fund claims examiner.
